Codex Alimentarius Maximum Residue Level (Codex MRL)

Codex Alimentarius Maximum Residue Level (Codex MRL)

For registrations of plant protection products, many countries worldwide are using the Codex Alimentarius MRLs for a wide variety of pesticides. The Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) is an intergovernmental body to implement the Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Programme and is responsible for setting up Codex MRLs. Its principle objective is to protect the health of consumers and to facilitate the worldwide trade of food. SCC can help you with the setting of the Codex MRLs.

It is important to note, that when the plant protection product is marketed within the EU, the maximum residue levels are not allowed to exceed the EU-MRL, even if the Codex MRL is higher.

The experiences that SCC has on the setting of MRLs can also be used in other areas.
